Now let’s look at the 7 deadly sins of Writing- Hamilton College:
Poor Grammar and Spelling — Telling, not Showing — Passive Voice — Purple Prose — Repetitiveness — Point of View Breaches — Lack of Persistence
But what I want to address is the sins of writers.
What cripples writers isn’t the struggle to find words, but the belief that you lack talent. All beginning authors have this fear. What if ….. But, how do we know if we don’t try? What makes a person a writer is writing and submitting.
What I have learned about the 7 Deadly Sins
Pride – Humility, have confidence without reward. Write for the pleasure it gives you.
Envy – Kindness, toward those we envy. Pleased for another author’s success.
Greed – Generosity, give without expecting back
Anger – Patience, wait to hear back from that editor. Wait to hear back from that agent.
Gluttony – Abstinence, good food, exercise, a healthy body makes a sharper mind.
Lust – Chastity, self control, self-discipline
Sloth – Diligence, continue to write. Finish that manuscript.
Yes you have interruptions. We can get writer’s block. We feel like a failure–blow to the ego–fear of rejection–fear of not being published.
Write anyway ! Keep Writing ! and Keep the Spirit !
